Friday Trip 088-0082906
Immigrants from Vientiane who settled in Thailand during the King Rama III period probably never imagined that their relocation would mark the beginning of a strong and unique Lao Viang community. Their culture and traditions have been passed down from generation to generation and are still present today. In fact, their Laotian language is the same as that currently used in Laos. The traditional Lao Viang outfit consists of a colorful sarong and a white shirt while their cuisine includes the one and only “Oua Bak Ped”, which can be found only at this community, as well as many other local dishes.
The “Hab Jang Han” tradition, where various savory and sweet dishes are offered to monks, is still practiced daily, and other local practices, like making coconut leaf brooms and rattan racks, fishing and hand embroidery are still evident in the community. These traditions are presented to visitors wishing to learn and exchange cultures, enhancing the village’s presence through community-based tourism.
